Letters From The Brig – Vol.1 No.5

Hi Kids –

I have been reminded that I have not posted an update for a while. My apologies – Thanks for checking in with me.

There has not been an awful lot to report, really, and I am still limited in my ability to sit. I am also limited in my ability to stand, lie down, spin sideways, levitate, or maintain any single position for any significant length of time. I have had to adopt the ‘touch-and-go-drive-by’ approach to pretty much everything, and not having a laptop, my portal to the world is via desktop. Basically, I can spend perhaps 15 or 20 minutes at any given task, then I have to get up, walk around, and then do something else. I do have good moments, but I get knocked down quite a bit, too.

Still – I’m plodding along. Next week I begin 5 weeks of radiation treatments – 5 days a week. Sounds like fun. The doctor assures me that this will be a piece of cake compared to what I’ve already been through. I think he’s fibbing, but what do I know? This is uncharted territory for me.

It is interesting though – I got an in-depth description of the equipment, how it works, etc. My inner nerd is watching with fascination. To put it simply, it’s sort of like frying ants with a magnifying glass.

**** So What’s New & Exciting? ****

I’m still adjusting to playing with ‘alien fingers’, but I think I have a grip on it. See? The one-liners just write themselves 😀 The neuropathy in my fingers has not worsened, and may even be a little improved.

I’ve been able to get out and play on Thursday nights in a little local cafe. Sometimes folks show up and play with me, sometimes I just noodle by myself. This has allowed me to dial in in some of the ‘ole standards’, bring a lot of stuff out of mothballs (shit I was playing 40 years ago), and has been a great motivator. I’m really looking forward to getting out and playing more once we have a handle on this plague.

Alas, I am not sure that I am able, nor is it wise, to continue the Thursday night thing. It seems the batteries are beginning to run a little low. The last couple of Thursdays have been a struggle, and with Covid cases rising and folks moving indoors, I think it best to err on the side of caution and reel it in. It will certainly be less wear and tear on the old battleship. 😀

I’ll trot it out one more time this weekend, but then it will be time to hibernate until after the new year. Perhaps I’ll start doing the occasional smart phone to facebook thing or something. We’ll see how the energy levels are.

**** Happy Thanksgiving! ****

With the bizarre set of circumstances facing all of us this holiday – the ‘Zoom Family Gatherings’ and all – it is difficult to embrace any sort of ‘holiday cheer’. It is important to remember that there is still much to be thankful for. The world is still flooded with love and light, it is simply a matter of opening the shutters and letting it in. It is impossible to destroy that energy, and as long as that remains true, there is always hope for the future.

For that I am eternally thankful.

**** That’s It For Now ****

Thanks for hanging in there with me and pinging my inbox every once in a while. You keep me moving! ((((hug))))

I know things are tight for everyone, but if you are willing and would like to help out, here is a link to my web site where you can. Any amount is extremely helpful at this point, and greatly appreciated.

Of course hugs, love, and the occasional ‘hi how are you?’ are greatly appreciated as well. In fact, they make the road less bumpy.

Stay safe out there kids. Wear your masks, and hug telepathically.
